The people following this Blog and my work know that I shoot Nikon, for over four years now. So you most probably will wonder why I am posting about Canon today. Well, first of all, Canon was so kind to invite me and other Bloggers, including the funky mr. Ben Hammer and my buddy Thomas Reimann. These days I feel it is very important to see how companies handle Bloggerrelations. And wether the handle it at all. Especially here in Germany this is a big issue. There is not only a big rift between the press and the blogging world, also a lot of the companies seem to be scared or completely ignoring Blogs and Bloggers, so it is a fantastic thing that Canon now steps forward and opens up towards us.

When the contact to Canon came about I had a few things in my mind. first of all most of my digital camera experiences are obviously with Nikon, Panasonic and Leica so far. I have handled Canon cameras before, but never really in depth for a longer period of time and only briefly head to head with the Nikon stuff I have.

So on the photo site I am looking forward to get to compare a lot of gear and also get a more in depth view into the Canon world. On the Video side of things a completely new dimension opens up. From camcorders I am very interested in to pro Cinema gear like the C300 and C100 cameras and lenses were recently presented by Canon.

A field I am more and more interested in and a field that gets more and more friction. where RED started to plant a seed, a nice little garden has grown and Canon right in the middle of it and for me doing more and more video work professionally these are very very interesting tools.

So we arrived at the very nice location here in Cologne with the best the international press- and blogworlds have to offer. The press-conference was full of surprises. On monday morning the official announcement for the Canon 6D was made and we got a nice run down and details of this new camera. Rumours obviously were floating around for a while now, but the details really surprised me and besides the fact, that the usual people are not satisfied, the 6D brings a bunch of great features that show Canons direction and view into the future. Sporting a Full-frame Sensor, a touchscreen interface back display, GPS and WiFi. A pretty neat set of features if you ask me. Especially as I would love to see the GPS and WiFi built into my cameras too. The Camera will at launch already be able to connect to existing iOS and Android apps for tethered shooting and camera control. HELLOOOO?!?!? NIKOOOOON???? ANYONE HOME???? Well I guess not right now.

Anyways... the most surprising and most interesting part was certainly the announcement of what Canon calls "Project 1709". Think, Adobe Creative Cloud meets Flickr made by a Camera manufacturer for any type of camera. From iPhones and iPads to anything else that takes photos. A well designed Platform to bring all your photos from all devices together, make them accessible to your self with ease of use and and give you the possibility to share every aspect of it.

The Beta started on Monday and I hope to get access soon for a nice in depth test. Flickr is and will be my main photo-sharing site when it comes to my photoblog and my professional work. Besides my blog obviously. Having a service like Project 1709 next to it where everything goes in, first as back up and secondly for my own convenience would be perfect. The sharing features and all included.

The last part that got my attention was the new line of printers in different sizes and for different purposes. Especially the small Selphy printer.

Stay tuned and have a great week.
