The first time I heard about Aliph or Jawbone was a few years back when they brought out their first Bluetooth Headset. It had a great noise cancellation, looked a lot funkier than all the others worked just fine. it was a bit complicated to operate correctly in my opinion, but hey, first product, right?!
Since then they brought a few more models of Bluetooth headsets out of which the icon is the one I own right now and really can recommend. then a few month/weeks ago I think on TWIT Merlin Mann had a pick of the week and it was by Jawbone… called the Jambox.
A little Bluetooth speaker system with a line in and supposedly great sound. Merlin Mann is someone I would buy most things from so I was very intrigued. Especially as I am not really satisfied with my macbook pros internal speakers. then on location shoots or when traveling I very often miss a better sound source.
So after they Jambox was available for order I thought about it for sometime, having the shopping cart open 24/7 in a tab and lastly decided to order it. I went with black. black goes with everything and the shape of the mesh looked the coolest.
Two or three days later I had it in the mail and got right to testing it at home. Since then I tested it in my kitchen while cooking, in our old apartment we just moved out while packing and so on. I am very impressed. It sounds full, clear and volume wise it impressed me also. Battery life I actually can’t speak for as I didn’t time it, but I haven’t charged it yet. Surely I am no audiophile, nor did I any scientific testing, but for the way I want to use it as I mentioned before, it is just perfect.
Small, light, and most importantly with a great sound for such a small device. Oh and I completely forgot you can use it for conference calls and so on.
The Buttons on top seem sturdy and have a great pressure point, the on/off and pairing switch is small enough, but not too small to use. Overall the build quality is very high. Another thing that really impressed me were the accessories that came with it and the way they were presented. This is something a lot of companies just neglect, which is a shame as they would show they care about there product and they could save materials etc… maybe…
The photos were all taken with my iPhone on the day the jambox arrived so please indulge me.
It might not be the cheapest of gadgets, but worth its price for anyone who wants better sound than out of their laptop or cellphone. On the go, at home or anywhere else. As a photographer its great for on location shooting or sitting in a hotel room with no headphones and the need for some decent music listening.
all the best to you all, teymur.
